Bicycle Safety Skills Awareness Fair

Event Start Time and Location

Reno Town Mall (the corner of So. Virginia St. and Peckham lane back parking area).

09:00 Am till 3:00 PM. No Preregistration necessary.

Eligibility

Girls and Boys ages 7 to 12 years of age, must have your own bicycle in proper working order. All bicycles will be inspected prior to entry in to the Skills course.

Each participant must have reached his/her 7th birthday and must not have passed his/her 14th birthday by January 1 of the year in which the fair is held.

Skills Course

The skills course will consist of 8 different maneuvers and all areas will be judged.

  1. Bicycle Inspection
  2. Mount and Dismount
  3. Figure eight maneuver
  4. Straight line control
  5. Weaving
  6. Emergency stop
  7. Turning
  8. Slow speed

Bicycle

Safety helmet

Entry Fee

There will be a cost of $5.00 per entrant and all proceeds will benefit the Wynema Ranch Horse Sanctuary 501C3.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for 1st -3rd places in both boys and girls classes. There will also be an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win various prizes ranging from bicycles to automotive repair. Must be present to win.

On September 12, 2015 from 09:00 Am till 3:00 PM America Matters Media and Teresa’s Garage Radio Show will hold a Bicycle Skills Course and Awareness Fair for youngsters ages 7 to 12 to be held at the Reno Town Mall back parking area. Participants who show exceptional bicycle-riding skills will receive awards and /or prizes. The event will provide an opportunity for bicyclists to measure their capabilities and increase their awareness of bicycle laws and the importance of defensive cycling.

Teresa Aquila, of Teresa’s Garage Radio Show and Kelly Rush from America Matters Media stated, “ In order to make this Bicycle Skills Fair an event the participants will enjoy and remember, many people and organizations along with several businesses have contributed their time and resources. This also helps to provide early education as an effective method of improving traffic safety.

We will be joined by Kiwanis International of Reno/Sparks, Local Law Enforcement and various businesses within Northern Nevada. There will also be booths set up inside the Reno Town Mall from various agencies and local businesses offering education, demonstrations, raffle prizes and giveaways. America Matters Media Personalities will also be on hand.
